My 10-year old & I were talking about bacon this morning, while we were out for breakfast.
He asked me why bacon is so bad for you and I told him, it’s actually the opposite. Bacon is high in fat and our bodies need fat in order to be healthy.
Now he was confused, especially when he told me that he learned in school that bacon is bad for you.
Why the heck would I tell him opposite?
Aren’t we all taught that anything full of fat is bad for us?
Guess what…it’s actually extremely HEALTHY for us to eat fat on a daily basis!
We are all taught, thanks to that “fat-free” craze back in the 80’s that fats are bad and that in order to be healthy, we need to eliminate any form of fat from our diets.
Yet there are many people who eat clean, but still have a few extra pounds that no matter what they do, just can’t seem to lose those last few pounds.
Doesn’t it seem odd that a really healthy person can’t lose weight easily?
Ok, let’s get to the good stuff then because I’m going to tell you that you can actually eat fat & LOSE weight!
Sounds totally wacky, right?
That’s what I thought, until I tried it and dropped down to LOWER than my pre-pregnancy weight (my kids are 5, 6 & 10) that I’ve been holding onto for several years.
Here’s the truth…
Fat is crucial to have in our diets and the #1 energy source that we need to consume daily!
Here’s an example…
When there were only hunters and gatherers, human’s thrived on fat. They would go days without meals if they couldn’t find anything to hunt. Carbohydrates just didn’t exist then!
Fat was the main source of energy for humans during these times.
Fast-forward to now and we are seeing the highest rates EVER of heart disease, cancer, autoimmune diseases, food allergies, mental illness and diabetes.
It’s our food!!!!!!
We are killing off our species by eating foods that are literally killing us!!!
How can we change our fate?
We can start by eliminating processed foods, sugars and carbs completely out of our diets.
Does it sound hard?
Yes, but how do you want to live your life?
I don’t know about you, but I plan to live a long, healthy life. It’s not going to happen that way if I kept on eating sugars, carbs & drinking lots of wine & alcohol.
I’m not saying that I’ve given up on everything. We are all human and eating delicious foods & having a few drinks is still high on my priority list.
I just choose not to do that daily.
And I’m not giving up foods that I love, I’m altering the way I prepare them. I’m also altering what kind of foods I consume. At the end of the day, I’m happy with my food decisions and don’t feel deprived very often.
The added bonus is that my skin has cleared up and my melasma is finally disappearing, because I’m healing my body on the inside and I can see the changes in my skin on the outside.
How can eating more fat help your skin?
When you eliminate harmful foods, such as carbs, sugar & anything processed, you are adding in good, healthy fats, such as coconut oil & avocados (there are plenty of other healthy fats, but to keep it simple, I’m just sticking to 2 common fats).
These fats work to heal the cells in your body that have formed this nasty crust from all our toxic and unhealthy foods we’ve been consuming for years.
Once these cells are healthier, your body begins to use fat as energy to burn off the fat your body is holding on to.
After the fat is gone, it works to heal your body’s organs that may have also been damaged. The beautiful thing about the human body is that it can completely repair itself from damage and will restore itself to a healthy state.
Eating a high-fat, low carb diet is the key to restoring your body’s naturally healthy state.
As your organs begin to heal, you feel more energetic, healthier and your skin clears up!
Our skin is the largest organ of our bodies and it shows us there is an imbalance or unhealthy organs inside.
If we don’t stop & listen to our skin and bodies, we are setting ourselves up for health problems.
Pay attention to your skin and change the way you eat. Your body and skin will thank you.
